It has widely been perceived that the Comprehensive Peace Accord concluded between the Government of Nepal and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists) on November 21, 2006 and subsequent political developments have brought about a decade-long armed conflict to a formal end and opened new avenues for the establishment of sustainable peace and socio-political transformation of the nation. In order to avoid the unfavorable situations and to mitigate the adverse impacts on social, economic and political life of the nation to be caused by the violent conflict, it is vitally necessary to timely address its root causes and take appropriate measures for its resolution. The characteristics and causes of conflict in Nepal and measures adopted for its resolution are of unique nature per se and they are the matters of concern, study and research worldwide. Likewise, experiences gained by other nations on the matters relating to conflict management, post-conflict reconstruction and rehabilitation may serve as useful guidance to Nepali stakeholders. Our own successes or failures that we experienced in the past may significantly contribute to prepare a roadmap for our common future. Realizing these facts, the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction (MoPR) has envisioned to establish within its preview a web-documentation center containing specialized information on peace process to support peace stakeholders, concerned entities and individuals in conducting peace related study and research thereby contributing to peace building efforts in Nepal. In this regard, the Ministry wishes to widely disseminate the information on experiences and achievements made so far at both national as well as international level by respecting and honoring the fundamental rights of the people to seek and receive information on matters of public importance. The Ministry firmly believes that this effort would significantly contribute to a peaceful, prosperous and new Nepal by fostering peace, reconciliation and social harmony. We do hope that the professionals, policy makers, researchers and other concerned entities or individuals may receive important and specialized information on matters relating to conflict management, reconstruction, rehabilitation, transitional justice, etc. It is also the expectation of the Ministry that this website would also play a catalytic role in making the Nepalese peace process more precise, scientific and result-oriented by promoting dialogue and interactions among stakeholders. In this regard, website of the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction is in your hand and we welcome you to visit the site frequently.
